When: Fri., Sept. 11, 9 p.m.
If you enjoy the guitar-heavy music made by the nomadic, matrilineal Tuareg people (a tribe based in the part of the Sahara that intersects with Mali) you must come to this show. If you don’t know what we’re talking about, check out Mdou Moctar, Group Inerane, Tinariwen (and of course Terakaft) on your phone, now, so that you can see why you have to be there. Frequent guitar breaks punctuate the droning, polyrhythmic grooves and chanted vocals, resulting in a hypnotic dance party. Terakaft is a Saharan desert guitar band that includes one early member and several relatives of people in Tinariwen. Terakaft’s music is more stripped down and raw, which is always a good thing.
